GGrandfather was James Casey, Burlington, NC. He married Ellen Manly. He was born near Clonmel, Co. Tipperary in 1831, and she was born near Crossmolina, Co. Mayo in 1839. They had 12 children, 8 of whom lived to be adults. Most of the family moved to VA in later years. Most of them worked for the RR.

My fifth great grandparents were ???? Riffe and Elizabeth Casey. They were from Greenbriar Co. KY in the mid 1700's. This has not been proven as yet, but seems to be correct according to
"Casey County KY 1806-1977" compiled and edited by Gladys Cotham Thomas.

My Mother is a Casey by birth (Jane Elizabeth Casey; DOB April 28,1919) and is the last living sibling of her family. She was born in Enoree, SC - her father was James Andrew Casey and her mother was Sarah Ellen "Sallie" Griffin Casey. I live in King William, VA.

I am the eldest son of Walter Eugene Casey, the son of Charles Casey, the son of John Casey who lived in Dover, Arkansas. My dad was born in Sasakwa, OK. My sister, 3 brothers and I were raised and still live in Missouri (St. Louis area)

My Greatgrandfather Thomas Casey (my name sake) came over from Ireland (County Claire) in the 1880's and settled in north Kansas City, Missouri. Since then, 6 generations of Casey's have remained in the Kansas City area...some north of the Missouri River and others south of the river.

Here is another important bit of history regarding our Irish name Casey.
The name derives from the Old Gaelic meaning for "Watchful" and as with most names in Europe during the middle-ages (1400's-1500's,)it became a first name.
Only when O' or Mac were used as prefixes, which in fact means Son of....the name then became a surname e.g. Christopher son of Casey was Christopher O'Casey, then Christopher Casey.
So the Casey's with the name as first name are in fact the orginal Casey's and us Casey's that use it as a surname came much later :-)
