Project Goals and Objectives

The purpose of the CASEY Surname DNA Project is to provide an opportunity for males with the CASEY surname to participate in a DNA test of 25 or more segments of their Y-chromosome, with the possibility of matching the DNA of other participants and thus establishing a possible genetic link between two or more participants. Female CASEY descendants are encouraged to participate by having a male CASEY relative take the test.

If there is an exact match in all 25 or more chromosome segments tested, then we have a strong probability of a common ancestor within the past 7 generations. With good family history research and documentation, it may even be possible to determine who that common ancestor was.

We would like to have at least two participants from each of the major CASEY family lines which have been thoroughly researched and documented.

Rationale for Cluster Groupings

In Cluster 3 of Results: The two matching kits for Daniel Casey (b ~1760) have been grouped with others in this batch. Plainly, there are several obvious mismatches. Daniel's kits, matching 25/25, are from distant cousins with the same documented ancestor who has been thoroughly researched. It seems they should be placed in a group by themselves, similar to Sinclair Casey's two lone submissions in Cluster 5.

Reference paragraph 2 in About the Project/Project Goals and Objectives: "If there is an exact match in all 25 or more chromosome segments tested, then we have a strong probability of a common ancestor within the past 7 generations." Daniel-1760 fits the bill. Others in Cluster 3 do not.
